Hindustan Copper Limited-Indian Copper Complex (ICC) at Ghatsila, Jharkhand
The Jharkhand mining and geology department is set to renew mining leases of two Hindustan Copper Ltd’s (HCL) closed mines-Kenduadih and Rakha-which have been lying closed since 2000 and 2001 respectively. “The renewal process is on,” said Jharkhand mines director BB Singh, while speaking to FE .
Though there have been several fresh proposals from new parties (such as the Essar group, Jindals, Meera Exploration etc) that showed interest in restarting the closed mines, the state mining and geology department has rejected them all and considered only HCL’s application.
“Though several parties had applied, we had to reject fresh applications and consider renewal only in favour of the existing party (that is, HCL),” added Singh.
HCL had in 2004 applied for surrender of both the mines but, fortunately for the PSU, its application was not accepted on technical grounds by the Jharkhand government’s mining and geology department.
HCL had, one by one, closed down..

Other deposits are: Turamdih, Ramchandrapahar, Nandup, Bayanbil and Dhadkidih (Singhbhum, Jharkhand).
